Another £165,000 to help with the cost of living
Hackney Giving has awarded another £165,000 to not-for-profit groups helping people deal with the cost of living.
This summer, we are offering grants of £750 to community groups running street parties or other events that bring people together, encourage fun and reduce isolation in Hackney and the City of London.
Loneliness and social isolation affect many people, having a negative effect on their lives. The NHS says that if people experience loneliness for a long time, it can increase the risk of some physical conditions, such as dementia, and mental health conditions such as stress, anxiety, low mood or depression.
Getting together with other people is a way to combat loneliness, as well as building and strengthening communities. We have a small amount of money available in Summer 2024 for street parties or similar events that bring people together and reduce isolation. Having a good time together has long lasting effects and we’re excited to be able to fund the fun.
Through these grants, we aim to bring people together, giving people the opportunity to connect with one another and to have some fun.
