Where are Hackney and the City of London?
Hackney is in east London. It shares borders with the City of London, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest, Haringey and Islington. 
The City of London is located to the south and west of Hackney. 
There are 1951 registered charities in Hackney and the City of London. 820 of those are in the City. In both areas, it is a high number per head of population.

In the least deprived neighbourhood in Hackney, 3.7% of people are estimated to be income-deprived. In the most deprived neighbourhood, 38.0% of people are estimated to be income-deprived.   
Hackney ranked in the bottom 20 percent of local authority areas in England for health in 2021.  
Hackney is the third most densely populated local authority area, with 14,007 people per square kilometer. Only our neighbours in Tower Hamlets and Islington are more densely populated. 
In Hackney, more than 40% of people say that either they or someone in their household used a charity for reasons of need, such as debt advice, ongoing medical care, or meals on wheels.
Despite overall affluence, parts of the City experience high levels of deprivation. The Portsoken ward ranks amongst the 20% most deprived wards. 
There is a high proportion of people living alone: 51% of households are single person. Older residents, carers, and people with long-term conditions are at particular risk of isolation.  
Mental health needs have increased since the pandemic, particularly among rough sleepers, carers, and care leavers.
