Hackney Giving relaunched in 2020, shortly before the COVID pandemic, and ever since, it has been providing crucial funding to grassroots charities. These groups, embedded in the communities they serve, worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic, as well as helping to reduce the impact of the cost of living crisis that immediately followed. They also work on other pressing needs such as mental health support and wellbeing work.
Funds have come from a range of sources, including donations from businesses, philanthropists and local residents, alongside statutory funding from the local authority and NHS.
“Distributing £3 million is a great milestone to have passed. The love and care that voluntary and community sector organisations have for people locally is clear, but so is the vast level of need in communities. Whilst we know this funding has helped them make a real difference to the people they work with, we also know how much more there is to do to eliminate the inequalities in our society.”Sarah added, “Our thanks are due to the individuals and businesses who have contributed so generously, to fundraisers for your efforts and to the statutory sector, as well as to City Bridge Foundation which funded place-based giving schemes such as Hackney Giving. Without you all, none of this would have been possible.”
